TSCC season ends on a low

TSCC season ends on a low after semi-final defeat to Badshaws in Taiwan’s biggest tournament of the year

After such a good start to season of 2010/11 TSCC only have the Taiwan sixes champions trophy in the trophy cabinet this year. A team with a lot of talent on and off the field as Graham Terblanche showed by adding a new member to the squad which he picked up in Carnegies! She’s an American/Chinese girl called “Dick” Tracy. It wasn’t to help Terblanche as he went for a duck on the Sunday game leaving pressure on the middle order!

A certain man from “down under” was certainly shaking his head in despair as TSCC collapsed to a weak looking Badshaws side Mr. Painter’s words of “Only wives should be allowed at any game.” will seriously have to be taken into consideration!
TSCC only just managed to scrape a side for this year’s PCCT Chunghwa to tournament, thanks to the help of three Scunners, Kris, Alan & Chad, who all came in handy at certain times in the game and off!

First game, TSCC v Taiwan Cricket Club (Thomas’s mob)

TSCC chose to bat making 146 for 7 in the allotted 15 overs. Terblanche 45 and Christie 63 set up the tone for a big total. Thomas’s eleven weren’t really in the chase until Scunner man Belling tried to give them a chance by bowling his only over of the weekend for 25 runs. Jeff Black was tidy with 1 for 5 overs and Graham Terblanche bowled well at the death with 3 for 15.

Game 2 TSCC v Arch rivals FCC

TSCC won the toss and decided to bat again. FCC had quick bowler Henry bowling with line and length making it difficult for the openers.
With both openers back in the hut. It was left to Black and Carrick to steady the ship making a respectable total of 117 for 3 in 15 overs. Henry bowling tight with 3 for 1 in 3 overs. FCC got off to a marvelous start with Paul Turner turning back the years making 46 but with his departure the panic set in, leaving the “Chokers” 17 runs short of their target. The return of Black and Terblanche kept the runs to a minimum after 39 from the last 5 overs looked to be in their grasp!
Game 3 TSCC v ICC

TSCC looked very relaxed now knowing that a place in the semi finals looked to be assured. TSCC batted first with Skipper Christie mixing up the order slightly even though a “win” was always in the back of our minds! TSCC set off like a train with Ex. International Terblanche smacking ICC all around the park. At one stage it was 77 for no wicket in 7 overs. Terblanche departed for 41 in 23 balls and soon after Christie was gone for 33 and very quickly it was 99 all out. With ICC already celebrating a victory! Best bowler was Nirav Shah with 6 for 11 in 3 overs. ( Better watch him next time! )

It was a tense ICC reply as the whole game “heated up” in many ways and TSCC were also reminded by FCC & ICC that it was a must win game so that they had any chance of making the semis. It looked like TSCC were doomed this time with only 12 needed from 2 overs. It went from bad to worse when “Alan Cooke” let one through his legs on the boundary, four runs were needed from five balls but Terblanche had another plan as he made two brilliant runs outs. Man of the Match Terblanche was now cock-a-hoop and couldn’t wait to party at Carnegies.
ICC made 98 for 9 in replay Roy Horgan 2 for 19 and Christie 1 for 14 were best of the bowlers.

Semi-final June 19th. Scheduled start 11:20 am, TSCC v Badshaws

Play finally got underway around 1:00pm with TSCC electing to bat. Graham Terblanche was promoted so he could impress Tracy but as usual when woman come to the games some lads don’t play as well! Only a slight mini partnership with Black and Carrick helped TSCC make 106 all out in 20 overs. Badshaws also found the wicket hard to play on but eventually made the target with 4 wkts to spare in 17 overs. Horgan bowled well taking 2 for 16 in 4 overs.

PCCT easily won the final by beating a tired looking Badshaws.

PCCT have dominated the 2010/11 season this year and look a formidable outfit. TSCC seem to match them on paper but can’t get past the post.
TSCC will be looking to hold onto the Cricket sixes trophy next season and will be hoping to strengthen the side so that all major trophies are won next season.
Skipper Christies position could be in doubt if he doesn’t produce trophies in the main form of the game as finishing “Runners up” is not what TSCC want in the 2011/2012 season.

TSCC AGM will take place in July/Aug in Tainan with Mr. Haarhoff organizing “ The Rock” as the venue. Hope to see all members there.

On a final note, TSCC members wish Uncle Paul Turner of FCC all the best in his new destination. It was a pleasure playing cricket against you, Paul.
